Heavy rain forecast in much of Japan

TOKYO, June 30 (IANS) Japanese meteorological officials said Friday that heavy rains are expected in areas along the Sea of ​​Japan coast through Saturday, warning of disaster risks such as landslides.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has forecast heavy rains from western to northern Japan due to an active monsoon front, Xinhua reported.

It added that precipitation during the 24-hour period to Saturday morning is expected to reach 250 mm in northern Kyushu, 200 mm in southern Kyushu, Shikoku and Kinki, and 180 mm in Hokuriku.

The Meteorological Agency warned of landslides, floods, swollen rivers as well as tornadoes, and urged people to use hazard maps to check disaster risks in the areas where they are located.
